both lovely and warm

Two nights ago, I slept all night long without waking up. Last night I woke up only when Adam did (he had some dreams that didn’t agree with him). And today has been a very relaxing Saturday: We went out for an early lunch, stopped at Home Depot for a minor hardware item, and popped into the toy store to spend A&B’s Christmas gift cards. Adam chose this fantastic Hot Wheels ramp and some new cars, and Becky picked out a baby doll with a bathtub that pumps water from a tub faucet and a removable shower (and she used some allowance money to buy the poor kid a dress, since she only came with a bathrobe and a diaper). They are having a GREAT time with their new stuff. :)

This morning I also picked up a box with this stuff in it (as usual, click photos to enlarge):

wool hats from kmkat

That’s seven handknit wool hats in assorted colors (I had to hang the top-right one upside down so you could see the stripe). Very wonderful.

I’ve also had a former coworker collecting stuff for me at church. Last week I picked up these:

hats from church

That would be 32 individual items, some attached to each other as sets of hat and mittens. Hooray hooray hooray. Another former colleague also gave me 9 pairs of purchased gloves that were donated to the church’s Advent Angel Tree in defiance of all requests and guidelines. While purchased things are Not My Deal, they will still work for what I’m doing, so I offered to take them.

So… that’s 39 handmade items TODAY. Added to the 36 that I had as of December 26, that comes to 75 items! Squee! I am aware of at least eight more things in transit (or nearly so), and I bet this will really happen. I really would rather not count the nine purchased items, so I hope you’ll help me out. I’ll be sending some more emails to some people who helped me publicize the effort. Maybe you could notify any knitters or crocheters who might be able to send something. Remember, the “official” deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 15 — but since you can’t possibly get items to me by then unless they’re already in the mail, I will count any items of which I’m notified before the deadline. Send me an email. I need to receive your items no later than January 19 in order to deliver on Monday, January 21. Thank you so much!

(A big shout out to my husband’s stepdad, who made the lovely glass ornaments you see at the far right side of the second photo — his name is John Olesen, and you can see more of his work here and here — and to the maple tree itself, which probably did not appreciate being manhandled in January for the sake of crocheted headwear.)

6 warm fleece hats (for someone with a smaller head than me–probably child size) in the mail TODAY to you. I’m sorry they’re so late, but they *are* on the way!
