Super Chunk

I’m just talking here.

well executed, poorly planned

To begin at the end, I have to be back at church at 7:00. Barring interaction with the police (haha), it takes a little over ten minutes to get there. Tonight I had plans to make the trial version of a cake that I want to take to an Event in a couple of weeks. It is my very FIRST cake-from-scratch, and it’s fairly simple in terms of ingredients, but there is a lot of “Combine A with B; set aside. Combine C with D; set aside. Add AB mixture to batter alternately with CD mixture, while standing on your left foot.” I didn’t really count on that in figuring my time — and it took half an hour to mix! Sometimes that A+B stuff doesn’t matter (like in cookies and banana bread), but cakes are a different thing altogether, and I’m told it’s a Really Bad Idea not to follow directions. Anyway, the cake went in the oven at 5:30, and it has to cook for an hour and 35 minutes. Simple arithmetic indicates that I’m likely to be late for my bell choir rehearsal AGAIN. Sigh. (To be perfectly fair, I made this plan when I thought Dan would be home to take the cake out of the oven for me — the mistake was really in failing to change the plan when he told me otherwise.)

But the cake batter? Super-tasty.

Just a little update: The cake turned out pretty much perfect, except it stuck to the pan a little bit because I didn’t take it out of the pan soon enough. Yay!
