Super Chunk

I’m just talking here.

uff da.

I am not Scandinavian (except maybe a little, someplace in my baby toe or my shoulder blade or something), but sometimes Uff Da is all a girl can say.

It’s hard to believe that the last week only had seven days in it.  I’ve made a Halloween costume — complete with ears and tail — from freakin’ scratch (yep, stayed up until 2:30 in the morning the day of the preschool costume party - hi Mom!), knitted my way through the gussets and a good distance through the foot on my sock, done a holy buttload of schoolwork, AND managed to have my first Wii experience on Sunday.  Tennis is fun, baseball is just OK, bowling is pretty fantastic (Adam and Becky picked right up on it), and boxing is crap.  I have sore arm muscles today from all my Wii-ing.
The school project is a booktalk for my Children’s Literature class; everyone has a chapter of the text and they’re supposed to talk through the booklist at the end of the chapter.  My chapter is actually an appendix, and I have to talk about Caldecott books.  There are close to 300 books on that list.  I am thankful for the 11th-hour realization that this was to be a collaborative project with the guy who’s working on Newbery books, because he had IDEAS and stuff.  I am not really following the directions as far as “booktalk” goes — I’m only mentioning about eight books in my 20 minutes — but at least people will know more about the awards and not just blindly pick up the books with the shiny stickers on them.

It’s tempting to think that this being-finished is a breathing space for school, but it really isn’t.  I have to finish my Communication for Leadership class (ack!) and read about eleventy-two million more children’s books (they’re getting longer) and write a fictitious library budget and visit another school and find some time to do 40 observation/aide hours for preclinical service so I can student teach (which means I need to get on the stick and renew my lapsed teaching license because not having a current license DOUBLES the number of hours I have to be a student teacher librarian) and then do those hours and write them up.  It’s… a lot.

In happier news, I ordered two skeins of Malabrigo Merino in Vermilion, and it shipped today.  I am giddy with anticipation.  I don’t get to keep it — it’s for a gift, and we’ll see if it’s done by Christmas — but I get to KNIT it, and that will be enough for now.  Depending on how that project goes, I may use Malabrigo to make Interweave’s Nantucket Jacket.  I think I’m becoming more of a process knitter — I am excited about the prospect of an honest-to-goodness challenge — but I want that jacket a LOT.  I want it in RED, and I want it YESTERDAY.  I will not likely get it before next fall, but I WANT it.  I’m still fairly product-focused, too, as it turns out.

Now I have to go to bed, even though I am all jazzed up about exciting new yarn and my in-the-wings project.  We have an agreement about bedtime here, and I never EVER make it to bed on time.  I am bad at going to sleep.

Boxing is just so funny though, when it’s someone else that is doing it.

I like the bowling thing where you get like 300 pins and see how many you can knock down. The kids love it too. And guess what’s coming out before Christmas (may have already come out) for Wii? Yes, DDR for the Wii. Guess what will be under MY tree! and then we have to figure out, actually had a conversation about, whose present would Guitar Hero be? Cause yeah, that will have to be there too.
